KINGSVILLE COUNCIL OF THE NAVY LEAGUE |

|
Three fiberglass dolphins painted by Carrie Suber, wife of LT Luke Suber of VT-22, were recently purchased at auction by the Kingsville Council of the Navy League. They were on display last year at The Club aboard NAS Kingsville before being transported to downtown Corpus Christi as part of the “Dances with Dolphins” public art exhibit which ended in early May, 2005. Dusty Durill, a local philanthropist and Corpus Christi businessman, saw Suber's Navy Jet Trainer dolphin design and wanted to have at least three dolphins painted in this design-so they could be placed together and "in formation" and that they should stay together. Suber started painting the fiberglass sculptures in late May, 2004 and finished them up in mid-June, thanks in large part to the Vertex employees at The NAS Kingsville Corrosion Control Facility. "They have been absolutely crucial to the project. I would like to thank them all for their support and advice," Suber said. |

She offered thanks to: Mark Runnels, Daniel Ley, Ernie Herrera, Dan Flynn, Lewis Howard, Frank Rodriquez, Refugio Rea, Jeff Zimmerle, Sean Carlisle, Jay Guerrero, Zon T, Bernie Bryant, Gary Catherman, Amador Garza, Randy Johnson, Johnny Benedit, and David Garza. Also she wanted to thank Vertex contractors for the use of the facility.
The idea of reacquiring the dolphins back to their “birth place” at NAS Kingsville was the idea of our Kingsville Navy League immediate past President, Harry Anthony. The three dolphins were successfully acquired by board member Harry Anthony at the All for Art Auction on May 20, 2005 at the Solomon Ortiz Exhibition Center. They all currently on display at The Club. Plans are currently being tailored to display the dolphins within the local community. If you would like to learn more about hosting a dolphin at your business please call Harry Anthony (592-7595), or Dick Messbarger (592-6438) for details. |
